What a beautiful day!! The sky is such a
clear, cobalt blue….you can’t help but just stare. Which can be
dangerous in these treacherously icy tundras of Michigan…however,
because the sun is actually visible today, most of the sidewalk snow
and ice has melted. Hence, a prime situation for sky-staring as I walk.
Also….I am skipping choir. Not skipping, per se, really it is
bypassing for the sake of an equally honorable and important event.
Which is a poetry workshop held by Dr. Sundahl. This certainly cannot
be missed.I don’t think I will miss an incredible amount in choir, but
I should probably let someone know I will not be there.
In other news, I’ve decided that people don’t
really care to read my philosophical and/or theological
rantings…..because you folks rarely comment when I post stuff such as
that (and when you do it is generally in confusion or boredom). As a
result, you shall now all be sentenced to a distinct lack of these
postings! I know there are tears…..because it is a sad thing indeed.
I shall have to restrain these writings to a) personal conversation
{for those who truly care to converse in this manner} or b) silent,
mental rantings….which may at divers times or places spontaneously
combust into bouts of speech which shall hereafter be disregarded.
So if you enjoy reading random posts…..about snow and
blue skies….(and every so often the crazy weekend event)……you’re
in the right place.

Why can’t things ever just work out the way that I want them to? I
mean, I understand why they can’t all of the time…..but maybe just
once? I know it is for a reason, of course. God has a plan, this I
trust. And yet, I can’t help but wish that perhaps at some point my own
desires will be completely aligned with whatever that plan happens to
be. That, of course, brings us to Dante and Augustine: the alignment of
the human will with that of God–this is the goal of a Christian life
and it’s achievement is also perfect fellowship with God, hence,
heaven. I hadn’t planned on making that connection with these
thoughts….it simply just occurred to me. Strange. Or perhaps
ridiculously obvious. Yes, my goal is for my wishes to be aligned with
God’s and yet I still want…..what I want. Such is the struggle of the
human existence….? Hence we are given Confessions, The Divine Comedy,
et al.
Truly, this started out as a whining session
about why things never seem to work out for me…..current situation,
case in point….but in writing I seem to have come to a somewhat
satisfying conclusion. For right now anyway. It truly is a moment to
moment thing. And so, in the words of Coldplay (ironically)….
God give me style and give me grace, God put a smile upon my face….
Just a quick entry before I head off to oil painting ![]()
It’s a rainy, melty day here in the ‘dale, and I am
feeling a full-fledged case of the Mondays but I’m hopeful for the rest
of the week. Mondays are always so busy for me and that’s not
necessarily bad because it keeps my mind occupied. A lot of things
happened this weekend–mostly good, but some not so good. I’m pretty
sure where to go from here, it’s just a matter of holding myself to
that. I’m not too worried…..just thoughtful.Gray days tend to put me
in that mood. But the snow is melting, at least for the time being, and
a little grass is showing through. That calls for at least a smile. ![]()
Love to all and prayers for a productive week. ![]()
p.s. I just realized that my entire outfit is red….that is going to have to change. hehe
“For the mind-set of the flesh is death….
These are my thoughts right now: However restrained
or confused things might have been in the last week, it feels as though
a load of worry has been lifted off of my shoulders. I think this
mostly has to do with what was said at the retreat with my Bible study
and I am so grateful that I was able to attend that. It feels like
these last couple weeks, my thoughts have been divided in two
directions and I really haven’t been able to take a step in either
direction, for various reasons. I think I’ve finally made a decision as
to which way I will go and, strangely enough, it is not quite as
stressful as I thought it would be. It’s been in the back of my head,
all along, what the outcome of things might be–but we never truly know
how things are going to turn out. And it looks like instead of taking
one of the two options I first saw, a third has opened up to me. This
is vague and generalized, I know, but it’s really just the mental
release of a mind at peace. I am grateful and hopeful. I’m not saying
that everything is going to be peaches and sunshine from now on–but at
least now I feel like I’ve reminded myself of where I am and where I’m
ultimately headed.
“….but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace” Romans 8:6
So, this weekend will be off to a great start– beginning
with an overnight retreat with the girls from the Bible study that
Karen and I are currently attending (hosting, acutally, since it is
being held in our room
). I’m quite excited for tonight’s
activities and I’m pretty sure it will be a good time. Miss everyone
already….even though it’s just one night! Eheu (that’s Latin for
alas…..) What is this sudden clinginess? I must be growing
sentimental in my old age.
Tomorrow pretty much all I’ve got to do is take some
yearbook photographs at the swim meet–which should be fun because I
haven’t been to any yet this year and I’m beginning to miss the feeling
(don’t quote me on that…). As much as I enjoyed my four years of high
school swimming, it was torturous as well, and I’m glad to be done with
it.
Then Sunday, more photographing at the Faculty Recital. And
somewhere in between there, I’m sure we’ll be partyin’ it
up….watching Hamlet or something…ya know…. good times. ![]()
Just got back from watching some fun IM basketball.
That was indeed
some funtimes. Nothing too much going on right now, though. Don’t
really have any homework to do, though I should probably be reading for
English……
I’m getting pretty excited for the retreat that our
Olds Bible study is going on this weekend. Karen and I are both going
and the only sad thing is that we will miss the Sigma Chi party
tomorrow night.
Of course, it will be much better to be spending
time with our Bible study gals…but still…..Alas….no worries…we
will live and perhaps be all the better for it.
I cannot believe how quickly this week has
gone by. I am still puzzling out some events from last weekend in my
head–trying to figure out what needs to be done next…..or, more
specifically, what I need to do next. It always comes back to the issue
of time, it seems. Unfortunately, I am getting rather tired of waiting.
I really should just learn to be patient….I think impatience may have
been a motive in some of my actions recently and that is probably not a
good thing. So, that’s been in my prayers lately. I just have to keep
remembering that God does have a plan for my life and no matter what,
it is so much better to trust Him than to try to force things into
happening.
Hope everybody has had a good week and have a wonderful
weekend!
