Oh yes indeed. The time has come the walrus said to speak of many things . . .
I just finished watching two (2) movies–one good
and one ok. The first was Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason. According to
my memory this movie was rented once before but not completely viewed.
And my sisters had just happened to rent it while I was working the
other night. So. It was good. Especially in light of my newfound Pride
& Prejudice knowledge (also, Colin Firth plays Mark Darcy in
Bridget Jones AND in the BBC mini-series of P&P) [!!!] Right. And
the next movie was Little Black Book. Stupid and especially depressing
for people like me. She doesn’t even end up with the guy…or any guy
for that matter. I guess that’s supposed to be the point….? Well it’s
not any point that I want to be reaching.

But the highlight of my day (other than church, of course) was seeing a
play with my mother at Oglethorpe with the Georgia Shakespeare
Festival. It was Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard and it was AMAZING.
I had never heard of this play before but my mother invited me to see
it with her (although I did get a choice as to whether I wanted to see
this one OR one of two others and I *providentially* chose this one)
and it definitely paid off. The play itself was so relevant to my
current experiences with letting go of (or simply not holding so
tightly to) the past/childhood memories and facing a bright new future.
Each character represented a different outlook on the future and
dealing with the past, but without being too allegorical or aggressive
in tone or expression. I have a newfound appreciation for Russian
literature (can’t wait to talk to Somerville about this) along with a
deeper look into the similarities of Southern and Russian literature.
Which means I’m already formulating research paper ideas…. But the
thesis of this post is that Chekhov wrote an enthralling play called
The Cherry Orchard and if you get the chance to read it or see it on
stage, I would definitely encourage you to. Or perhaps I could get the
Hillsdale theater dept. to pull it off….that would be cool.
Although I’ve unfortunately had a bit too much
caffeine this evening, it appears that bedtime is drawing nigh
considering I have to get up at 7:00. So goodnight.

P.S. Felix the Cat is pretty cool I think.

Ouch….my feet hurt. Working concessions in a movie theatre can be
grueling. I’ve also decided that the majority of people are slobs. And
I thought I was bad. If you spill something, clean it up for goodness’
sake!! Don’t let it sit there on the floor until somebody slips and
breaks their neck or it gets crushed into the carpet or kicked under
the machines or whatever the heck else could happen. Man. I’m turning
into a house-wife already. Ha.
And we just finished watching a movie with Bruce
Willis called Hostage. Yet another far too vivid look into the depths
of human “issues”. Just plain scary. But Bruce Willis is good. So I’m
not quite sleepy….just mentally and physically tired. Not that I’m
complaning.

Work last night was a breeze. My manager is very nice, co-workers don’t
seem too bad either and the work itself is not difficult. Admittedly,
it was a little hard to pick up at first (considering that I’m not
really a whiz at numbers and they practically threw me at the register)
but it just took an hour or so to adjust. My schedule for the next week
is pretty busy, considering that I have the following week off for
family vacation and after that I’m hoping to put in as many hours as
possible until school starts back. In fact I have a lot of goals to
complete before I go back to the ‘dale and all of the sudden it seems like
the time is more than halfway gone. Probably because it is. Which means
I’d better get back to cleaning my room!

Woke up this mornin at 6am to the sound of bird
chorus. Then it was a walk to Grandma’s house (seriously) and now I’m
back home swooning to the smooth sounds of Ray Lamontagne. Wow. It’s
like Damien Rice + Jack Johnson. Loverly. No big plans for today except
job training (at the local movie theater yes!) at 6. And other than
that I’ll probably be workin on the latest portrait commission (another
yes!).
Tomorrow I’m going to a *Tom Jones* concert with a
friend…. haha….if you don’t know who Tom Jones is, google him. The
term “sex bomb” may show up. And what else….? Nothin really. One and
a half weeks till family vacation time. Then after that, 4 weeks till
back to school. Tempus fugit.

Oh and one more thing…
I have been gifted with the amazingly entertaining “Pride &
Prejudice Board Game”. Now this is exciting. I still have not finished
the book, but after watching the 6-hour television series, I’m already
a fan (just in case you didn’t read the post where I gushed about that)
and to have a *board game* that brings these characters to life?!?
Golly gee, it’s like a dream come true! And I’m actually half serious
about this…..and NO that’s NOT weird. Unfortunately, I am home alone
today and thus have no one to join me in the joys of aforesaid game.
Alas…..but I will leave you with a picture.

Back from the wilderness. And strangely refreshed. You’d think four
days of hiking up back-breaking hills with a 40+lb. pack on your back
would be tiring more than refreshing, but it really was nice. Just to
chill with nature, bond with the family, etc. Plus we got some really
good jokes going. haha. Which just makes me realize what a silly/stupid
sense of humour I have that usually only my family understands…and
even if they don’t, they still laugh.
So now it’s back to the regular old schedule
except…wait…I have a job (possibly)!! Yes, folks, it’s true–I’ll
be spending a little time at the local movie theatre for the rest of
the summer (hopefully enough time to earn me a decent amount of cash).
And no, I won’t be watching the films, just in case you didn’t catch
that one. Just think of me as your handy dandy popcorn girl. Between
that and going into Atlanta for art class, I should be fairly busy and
I have no doubt that the rest of the summer is going to fly by…..and
that is now suddenly a sad prospect. Just when I get settled into it,
it has to start going by too quickly. Don’t you just hate it when that
happens?

So we’re heading into the wilds tomorrow for a 4-day backpacking trip
in the Mt. Pisgah National Forest (North Carolina). I’m pretty excited.
We do these types of trips about once a year when my dad can get the
time off (usually around his birthday = July 5) and it always ends up
being a great experience. I’ve always enjoyed being outdoors and the
Pisgah wilderness is especially beautiful. And this time, I’m taking my
digital cam! No more poorly-lit shots with a disposable. So you will
all be able to vicariously experience the joy that is “roughing it”
Until Tuesday, then, adieu!
