I just got back from my little cousin Emma’s 9th birthday
party–goodtimes. We went to a Japanese steak house (where they
cook in front of you and all)–a slight overindulgence to say the
least–and then went back to her family’s house for cake and presents.
There’s apparently a new hot stylish groom Barbie. Yes a *Groom Barbie*
— he has no name (not even Ken)….they didn’t even have the decency
to call him a doll with a guy name….he’s just a “Barbie” doll. Poor fellow.

Before that, we went to a concert of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at
Reinhardt College and it was just gorgeous. The performance featured
Rossini’s Overture to Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville),
Stravinsky’s “Dumbarton Oaks” (not my favourite), Tchaikovsky’s Romeo
and Juliet and Beethoven’s 7th Symphony. They were all magnificently
executed and if there were any flaws, I certainly didn’t notice. My
favourite was the Tchaekovsky piece–it was beautiful. I’m everyone has
heard the theme to this one–its commonly used in movies, games (like
the Sims), etc.–but this was the first time I had heard the rest of
the piece and I love it. I’ve always been a fan of Tchaikovsky (ever
since Disney’s Sleeping Beauty at age 5 ) and it’s always a neat
experience to hear the music live and up close. So kudos to the Atlanta
Symphony Orchestra and kudos to my parents for getting tickets!

And
now I am calling all willing and able recruits for a concert this
coming Friday. All are welcome (18+ that is)–just a bunch of local
bands jamming at a downtown club. Only $10 to get in. So give me a yell
(or a phone call) if you’re interested!

I hate it when people just disappear.

Although I guess I can’t really say that without shooting myself in the
foot because I am a culprit of this horrid trend as well. Sure we can
always blame it on different schedules or simply overwhelming
business….nonetheless, if you really care, you’ll make the time. I
can think of a few people I’ve “abandoned” in just the past year
without even meaning to…simply because I didn’t take the time to
call, say hi or even wave from across a crowded courtyard. How foolish.
And then again, I could just blame it on my “non-confrontational”
personality. Ha. No excuse is good enough. This is not to say that
these people are really missing out by not experiencing my presence (I
would not want to overrate the value of my attention), but I guess it’s
more me who is missing out on a relationship that could broaden my
living experience. Or is that just a bunch of emotional,
phsychoanalytical hogwash?

I suppose I’ve just guilted myself into trying to be less self-centered in the future.

In other news: Work was busy but funny. It rained tonight. Got
ice-cream with my mom and youngest sister (definitely not on the
diet…haha) Exactly two weeks till the I have to start expecting the
unexpected. Until then….I love to settle for the familiar.

Work today was pretty normal. Perhaps a little busier than usual because of the expected excitement (in a town such as Canton) for the release of the movie Dukes of Hazard. I think I sold at least 100 tickets for the 7:00 show…even before 2:00. One fellow told me it was because of Jessica Simpson (I’m sorry but I find her completely distasteful…I don’t care if the stupidity really is an act); another said it was just because it’s so “Southern.” That is perhaps the answer I understand better. I mean, anyone who drives around a sweet ’69 Dodge Charger with racing numbers and a giant confederate flag painted on the top would steal the heart of almost any native. Not to mention the fact that it’s named “General Lee.” So…I understand the appeal….and I may even see it…..nonetheless, it still cracks me up to see people crowd my little ticket window proudly handing over their money as though the simple phrase–“Dukes”–is enough to fulfill their quest for happiness in life. I exagerrate, of course. But it’s still funny.

Also many other funny things happened involving comments made concerning said customers….believe it or not, they can’t really hear what is said behind the glass since our little speakers are broken. heehee At one point I couldn’t even give a women her change because I was doubling over with laughter from some comment Ishmael (nondescript manager) had made. Not to mention the encounters with some of the biggest hick accents I’ve ever heard and NOT understood. But, once again, I sure do love Georgia, and especially good ‘ol Canton. I honestly wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

Right. So today I was schedule to work from 6 till close (which usually
is about 11:30 or so) but at 11:45, my productive morning was
interrupted by a phone call from one of my managers pleading that I
come in early to work box. Of course, I agreed ( I don’t like working
the night shift anyway) but what is annoying is that I had asked
several times if they were sure they didn’t need me for the morning
shift, and several times they had say no. Anyhow, my morning and part
of afternoon were spent at work until (joyously) I was sent home early!
Which only meant that I got to watch a little bit of Wedding Crasher
(still gotta finish it!) before I was picked up and whisked off to
Walmart with my mother and Giles. Goodtimes indeed. And now we’re
headed to Red Lobster with my grandmother. AND I’m listening to some
sweet Red Letter Agent jams. Perhaps more later cause now is the time
for departure. Adeiu.

highlights:

-Spent all day cleaning at work because there is  a “general
managers” meeting tomorrow…this involved using lots of highly toxic
cleaning agents and running the concessions and box office at the same
time by myself. LOTS of fun

-Trying to decipher the English  language from the garbled Canton-speak of one of my co-workers….many laughs ensued

-Getting Chik-Fil-A for lunch as a reward for our hard work!

-Seeing that I got 5 whole comments on my last post! (I was in a VERY
cynical mood for those of you who wonder…hence the silly,
semi-philosophical words of wisdom)

Cynicism will not get you far.

Neither will being a lazy bum.

Two good things to know.
