Nothing especially crazy today. It has been a good Tuesday so far, and should get better. Sculpture still to go at 2:30, but I think I’ll have to leave early (if possible) to go to the 4:00 CCA. Today begin lectures more focused on Tolkien, and I’m really interested to hear what will be said. Some interesting concoctions were produced in SAGA for lunch involving melted cheese (oh yes…it can be done). Already finished part of my Latin homework for tomorrow, which means I actually don’t have as much to do tonight (whereas last night, I did have a lot to do…and….ended up not doing all of it :-\). No worries, though, classes are still tolerable. Paper topics are underway and Gregory is cooking Green Curry Chicken for the Suites gals on Friday….could it get any better??

The CCA ( the first lecture of this particular series: C.S. Lewis and the Inklings)
was very interesting. The auditorium was packed, allowing me the
privilege of sitting in the EAR and watching the lecture on tv, but it
did not detract from the experience. The speaker, Walter Hooper, was
straight from jolly old England and had a lovely accent. He spoke
mostly about Lewis, Tolkien and their relationship as well as the
effect of Lewis’s conversion on his writing and overall character.
Hooper also mentioned several of the other Inklings in passing, notably
Hugo Dyson who played a role, along with Tolkien, in Lewis’s
conversion. Another lecture will be today at 4 and then again at 8.
Plus, a Kappa meeting at 6:30 till who knows when . . . at least I’ll
be keeping good company.
Listening to the Modern Skirts – Catalogue of Generous Men (yay)!
They are using sprinklers out on the front lawn of the Suites and as I
was walking in just now I had the strongest urge to just throw down my
books and run through the sprinkler just like we used to . . . It’s not
even too hot, but a nice sprinkler-run would have been quite
refreshing. Unfortunately, I don’t think the landscapers would be very
please if I trudge through all of the nice new grass that they’re
trying to get to grow. Ah well . . .
Last night: SigmaChi lock-in was a lot of fun. Adventures were had. ![]()
So I’ve decided that in my ideal future, I will be settled down in a
quaint small town probably very much like Hillsdale with nice long
streets lined with cute houses and beautiful trees; it will probably be
a college town (because there’s always LOTS of activity….so it won’t
get too boring, of course
). Preferably it will be somewhere in the
South, but if not, I suppose I could survive. This was all decided
today as I was walking to my Sculpture class at a blithe 2:30 in the
afternoon on this gorgeous fall day. The weather has been so beautiful
here lately, but it’s more than that. Hillsdale is so peaceful.
Frankly, I love it. A visitor even commented to me today (as I was
walking into the bookstore on an errand) that this is one of the
quietest college campuses he has been on. It’s not that Hillsdale is
dead or that the students are lifeless, it’s just that it is so
peaceful….even stress can take a momentary pause when you look at the
sky and see how blue it is. And that’s about it ![]()
