New profile pic on the left there. Me and Karen at the Mongolian BBQ
place in Ann Arbor. That was fun! The food was good, but the company
was better. Check out more pics HERE!
Oh yeah, the background image on this page is a photo of Lake Eerie
that I took when we visited this weekend. It was the first time I had
seen it! Very pretty, no?

Home again, home again….
Yes, we’re back from fall break. I had a blast!! Friday night was
great–just chillin with Karen’s friends: Rob, Chris J.. and Chris A.,
Kloster, Kat, Nick, Mark, Paul, Leeann, Becki, and many more….
Saturday night we drove up to Ann Arbor for Mongolian BBQ. That was an
experience worth the wait.  Sunday was just relaxed–watched a
movie with my cool new friend Patrick–Pat, Patty….whatever. Monday
we went shopping! That was fun. Definitely ate loads of great food
(home-cooked no less)–I don’t even want to know how much the scale has
jumped. The “freshman 15” is a negative number, right? RIGHT!!?? Better
be……. Oh well, back to school and work. No more play. At least
until this weekend
Pics from Fall Break coming soon.

Time goes so quickly when you always have things to do. It’s a
neverending cycle of work and play. Still trying to get the work part
perfected, but I certainly have the play down to a fine art.
Speaking of which, I’m so excited about going home with my roomie this
weekend! We’re going to visit some of her friends and actually cheer on
the Chargers at Grand Valley. Away games are never quite as much fun,
but I’m sure someone will
appreciate out presence, right? I really love watching football games,
especially when I know people on the team. It just makes things even
more interesting. The only bummer for the long weekend (it’s fall
break, so classes will be out till Wednesday) is that I have both of my
midterms for Western Heritage and Fresh. Rhet next week. One of
Wednesday, the other on Friday. So I’ll have to do some
studying…..work before play? Maybe, maybe not. Probably not.
But it’s still just Wednesday, so I have plenty of time to
anticipate. It’s a beautiful day outside–clear blue skies and the
leaves are just beginning to turn. I’ve never seen such clean autumn
colours! It is beginning to get rather chilly, though, and my
Georgia-ness is not quite used to it yet. Still need more sweaters!

YAY! Visitors galore! Tis Siblings Weekend here at the ‘dale and Karen
and I are hosting Karen’s 13 yr. old cousins, Kelly. What a great gal!
We’ve been having all kinds of fun. Friday night was fun at the Mu
Alpha house watching Will Ferrell and just chatting. Last night of
course was the football game, although the student turn-out was
somewhat disappointing….the frats no where to be seen. We had a
rousing viewing of Sgt. Bilko at around 10:00 then headed back over to
the Mu Alpha house for more movies and good times (sans Kelly). And
today, my mother and grandmother are coming! What more could I desire?
Nothing–the art exhibit this afternoon is going to be great. I’m very
excited. Not to mention quality time with the fam. I’ve got to get
ready for church right now, though. ttfn and tatafor now.

parable of the seeds

By a window left open
and breeze with the curtains dancing
she stands— one lost to thought,
and left to linger with ivy-stranded pillars–
till daylight fades to ‘nought
and shadows start to swagger.
Once I saw, and she,

the selfsame shadow menagerie
of visions from a dream– or else
the fading light of swarthy dusk.
But I stayed not the last to see
and stumbled back to life before her.
Dawn, then, and the Light—
of life and living things,
apart from endless shadow plains,
does not hide her face
but leaves her now as then
in endless reverie.

Matthew 10:27
“What I tell you in the darkness, speak in
the light; and what you
hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.

I started working tonight with my job on
the new Hillsdale Call Team. I was a bit nervous to begin with, but
after the first several calls, I started getting used to the process. I
can tell already that I’m going to enjoy it–I have no problem bragging
about Hillsdale. Nothing much else happened today—except perhaps a
wee misunderstanding over AIM this morning. It’s horrible to take
advantage of people’s confusion….but it can be so funny, too. I
really must overcome my urge to make sarcastic remarks….I usually end
up with my foot in my mouth, regretting that I ever learned how to
speak. I really have no desire to come across as a mean person–in
fact, I would prefer the exact opposite (yes, hard to believe, I know).
It’s so important sometimes to just consider how other people see you
not only as a person, but as a Christian and a witness of the faith. I
know I’m inclined to forget about other people and focus completely on
myself and on my own feelings/reactions–and then I’ll do something
stupid or mean and God will usually send something along to kick me in
the head and make me realize just how selfish I am. I’m grateful for
that….even when it comes in the form of an embarassing moment.
It’s raining still here in Michigan  and,
frankly, it makes me really happy just to stand out in the rain and
acknowledge life and living and be grateful to God!
