Suppose it’s time for an update. Except nothing incredibly exciting has
happened. Tis the glory of summer…..lazy days spent reading outside
in the sunshine….*sigh* life is good.
Still waiting to hear about
the jobs I applied for. Recently got an offer to do a portrait drawing
of a friend’s children, and I’m really excited about that. Other than
that, just been enjoying the homecooked food (beat SAGA by %100) and
trying not to waste my time at home (even though I’m really counting
the days till I get to see y’all again…is that bad?)
. Hope
everyone else is enjoying themselves just as much.
Oh, one cool thing did happen today. I got to see some
high school teachers that I hadn’t talked to in a while. It wasn’t
quite weird…it was more just nostalgic. My English teacher junior
year was/is the greatest teacher and I found out that he’s leaving my
high school and that is a great loss for the students of the future. I
never really agreed with the principles that he was teaching (he rarely
actually inserted his own personal philosophy into discussion) but he
gave me such an outlet to express exactly what I felt about certain
types of literature (post-modern, generally, also those darn
transcendentalists) and in that way garnered from me a certain amount
of appreciation for those very same books and authors. Perhaps this is
why I am so looking forward to my course next semester in American lit
1820’s-1890’s….it will be the same type of literature that I studied
junior year and I feel very comfortable with those authors.
And then
there was my creative writing teacher (I keep wanting to say prof…)
who quizzed me about what college profs want in a
paper….organization, of course! It’s too bad that Hillsdale doesn’t
have a better creative writing program, cause that teacher gave me a
bunch of cool tips about writing. He’s quite talented himself. Also
found out that in the past several months he and his wife have somehow
come upon yet another child….amazing how that works.
And thirdly (actually he was the first one I saw,
but that’s beside the point) my Latin teacher. What a cool guy.
Eccentric in ways that only growing up in Turkey and various random
places can make a person, but it certainly doesn’t work against him
when it comes to teaching. He once had a pet boa constrictor named
Floyd. And this is the man who brought me to my college senior status
of Latin competancy. haha I am ever grateful. And that was the end of
my high school visit….had to take the youngun’ to a little end of the
year shindig. I remember freshman year…*sigh*
Oh. And I had lunch with a good friend. Lovely chats
about…various…unmentionable…topics….ahem. Well then. I believe
I’ll go watch a movie or do something similarly constructive (that is
to say, not at all!).
love.
