I love the idea of hats as a fashion statement–archaic though it may be in this age of “less is more”–and I think it would be a great trend to start again at weddings. In the absence of the old photo from my mother’s baptism that depicts several mothers, aunts, grandmothers, etc., in hats of all shapes and sizes, I’ve included this vintage pic (circa 1920) to show just how classic this style can be.
And below, some modern versions of the classic “wedding hat”. Wouldn’t it make things a little more exciting (or at least give you another excuse to go shopping) if all each guest–at the least, diginified, fashionable female guests–went out and bought a hat to match her outfit? I think it would add interest and a summery flair (not to mention block out all those harmful UV rays!) for the audience. 🙂

I think I’ll be hat-wearing lady when I’m old. That would be a fun thing to collect, like purses or watches. And hatboxes are SO GREAT! I got my friend Tara a hatbox for her birthday one year; I picked it up at an antique show or something, and I almost kept it for myself.
Speaking of fashion, did I tell you that I rummage through your Goodwill box and ended up keeping several of your tops? They fit me perfectly! I wear the 2 button-downs to work all the time, and I’m obsessed with the pink sweater… seriously it like made my day! So thank you 🙂
