Work today was pretty normal. Perhaps a little busier than usual because of the expected excitement (in a town such as Canton) for the release of the movie Dukes of Hazard. I think I sold at least 100 tickets for the 7:00 show…even before 2:00. One fellow told me it was because of Jessica Simpson (I’m sorry but I find her completely distasteful…I don’t care if the stupidity really is an act); another said it was just because it’s so “Southern.” That is perhaps the answer I understand better. I mean, anyone who drives around a sweet ’69 Dodge Charger with racing numbers and a giant confederate flag painted on the top would steal the heart of almost any native. Not to mention the fact that it’s named “General Lee.” So…I understand the appeal….and I may even see it…..nonetheless, it still cracks me up to see people crowd my little ticket window proudly handing over their money as though the simple phrase–“Dukes”–is enough to fulfill their quest for happiness in life. I exagerrate, of course. But it’s still funny.

Also many other funny things happened involving comments made concerning said customers….believe it or not, they can’t really hear what is said behind the glass since our little speakers are broken. heehee At one point I couldn’t even give a women her change because I was doubling over with laughter from some comment Ishmael (nondescript manager) had made. Not to mention the encounters with some of the biggest hick accents I’ve ever heard and NOT understood. But, once again, I sure do love Georgia, and especially good ‘ol Canton. I honestly wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

Margaret, dahling, you’ve got to learn the “Canton speak.” I know it’s rough understanding another language, but I understand it. So get to work! Love you!

I read resoundingly that Dukes of Hazzard is one of the worst movies in recent memory, possibly ever. Good thing we don’t have as many hicks in gool ole’ Michigan.
