This Valentine’s Day project was so fun! It ended up being a fun family event and daddy even got in on the action! It turned out so cute and our little girl absolutely loved it!
I know that this mailbox may seem a little over the top to some, but Tiny Dancer loves crafting. She loves cutting, gluing, and all things glitter. Her love language is quality time and I know that her love tank was filled up with this Valentine’s Day project.
I used 2 boxes for the body and head as well as 2 empty toilet paper rolls for the feet. I went to Dollar General and got the rest of the supplies for the box. I bought pink wrapping paper for the body, glitter, construction paper, tissue paper, and ribbon curls. This was all right around $8. I’m sure you can find these items at the Dollar Tree or Hobby Lobby as well.
This was our inspiration I found on Pinterest but it didn’t lead to a tutorial.
The first thing I did was wrap up our boxes with wrapping paper. This idea turned out to be great! I didn’t have to use several pieces of construction paper and cut them to size! Double sided tape is a beautiful thing…it was a total time saver! It’s perfect to wrap boxes with!
I made 2 ears out of cardstock and put hot glue in the middle. Tiny Dancer sprinkled pink glitter all over them, which made the ears!
Next, we made the legs out of empty toilet paper rolls. I cut them in half and Tiny Dancer rolled them up in the wrapping paper. Double sided tape to the rescue once again! After we got the legs wrapped up, I put hot glue on the bottom and she sprinkled glitter on the glue.
I forgot to take pictures of the head, but all I did was use the white sparkle wrapping paper and wrapped it around 1/2 of the box.
Once the body was finished, we moved to the unicorn horn. Daddy helped and made a horn for Tiny Dancer to decorate. To make the wings, I traced 2 hearts for her to cut out. After she cut them out, she glued them to the body.
Once the horn was done, I cut out eyes and she put heart stickers in the middle. She put some eye lashes on them and made the unicorn mouth. It turned out super cute! She did a great job!
She glued the ribbon curls on the head for the mane and also for the tail. We added the feet with hot glue and daddy cut a hole in the top for the mail. Overall, it was a pretty easy craft and Tiny Dancer was so excited to take it to school! Here’s the finished unicorn!!
Are you making Valentine’s Day mailboxes with your kids this year? I’d love to see yours!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
